Anyone interested in seeing live boa snakes, semi-naked women, decadent dancing and evil henchmen in tight red latex suits - the lot set in outer space - should check out the East German sci-fi reel In Staub der Sterne (in the Dust of the Stars, 1977) I saw it a few years ago and it's destined to be a cult classic one day.
The story of a spaceship from Earth answering a mystery distress call from a distant planet is weirdly funny, a movie strewn with totally far out persons or elements that will take you by surprise, and despite the country of origin, it's very attractrively filmed and with a large budget. It's unlike any other sci-fi film you've ever seen.
